The Culinary Training Program was created by chef Timothy Tucker in 2005 and offers free job skills training in the culinary arts to nontraditional students.
At the program’s heart is a belief in healing lives from the inside out. That starts with fresh, healthy, mindfully prepared food.
This 10-week course not for the faint of heart. It teaches knife skills, food terminology, kitchen safety standards, recipes, and effective work attitudes.
Our strong community partnerships help place graduates with top chefs in their local communities. Classes are ongoing in Miami, FL in partnership with Miami Dade College and in Louisville, KY through the Salvation Army. Chef Timothy is currently in Boston at The Salvation Army Kroc Center. The Culinary Arts Training Program’s classes are on going and a model for other other Kroc centers are being created.
“The goal of The Salvation Army Culinary Arts Training Program is quite simple: to give unemployed and underemployed adults an opportunity to begin a career in the culinary industry in order to earn a living wage and break the cycle of poverty. Here is Margarita’s story, just one of the many lives transformed by this program!”
